What do you need

To follow today, you need a few simple things. First, you need a compatible iOS device. Let’s break down by type of iOS device.

Each iPhone iPhone 5 goes ahead is compatible with, including the following devices:

  • iPhone 5
  • iphone 5c
  • iphone 5s
  • iPhone OS
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • Iphone 6
  • iPhone 6s more
  • iPhone 6s

The list becomes a little more difficult to analyze when we start talking about iPads, due to different naming conventions, but basically if you have an iPad 2 or later you are covered:

  • iPad Air
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Pro 9.7-inch
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch
  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad 4th generation
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad 3rd generation
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini

Finally, you can install iOS 10 beta over the last two generations of the iPod Touch:

  • iPod touch 6th generation
  • iPod touch 5th generation

Once you have determined that you have a compatible device, you will need to register for an account of the Apple Beta Software  Program ( https://beta.apple.com/ ). Registration is as simple as using your regular Apple ID to confirm you want to join the program.

In addition to the hardware configuration of the device, we also strongly suggest that you have a Windows PC or Mac running the latest version of iTunes to make a full backup of your iOS device in its condition prior to 9 update iOS 10 beta . Let’s start there.

First step:  Backup Your iOS Device Up With iTunes

Why go back to a local machine? Even with a fast connection, pulling down a full backup iCloud can take a very long time for a phone with many applications and storage. Also, you should never worry about running out of space or your backup is overwritten when you have the extra space of a hard drive (compared to the very limited amount of space allocated to the free iCloud account) . If you want to erase your phone and return to iOS 9, the process will take a few minutes if you have a local backup and possibly for hours and hours if you must do so on the Internet.

In case it was not clear by this point: back up your device to iTunes before proceeding.

Do not remember how? Do not worry. These days, many even iOS users never look at iTunes, then you’re probably not alone. To save, run iTunes and connect your iOS device with the sync cable. Locate the device icon near the top left corner of the iTunes interface and click it.Install the iOS 10 Beta on iPhone or iPad (2)

In the page of the “Summary” device, which is open by default when selecting the device, scroll down to the “Backup” setting and select “This computer” as a backup location and select the box “encrypt iPhone backup” -if you do not encrypt your backup, you lose all your passwords accounts registered in Safari and other applications, all your health data, and all your settings and data Homekit. Click “Back Up Now” to start the backup.

Even with a particularly comprehensive iPhone, the process should not take long, our 64GB iPhone 6 was just over half full and it saved on USB in a little more than 10 minutes.

Speaking of iPhones particularly complete, if your iOS device is packed to the gills with stuff, you may not have room for the update iOS 10. While you’re waiting for the backup process to complete, take a look at the bottom of the device panel and see how much free space you have on the device.Install the iOS 10 Beta on iPhone or iPad (5)

The iOS 10 beta update is about 1.7 GB in size, and requires approximately 1.5 GB of temporary space to use during the upgrade process. It would be wise to at least around these two numbers, add them, and aim 4GB of free space on your device before upgrading. If you are tight on room, now is a great time to remove something with a large footprint, but that is easy to put on later (such as a mobile game with a huge storage requirement or a bunch of audio books you can re-download after the fact). Check Settings> General> Use your device to see what using the space.

2nd Step: Update your configuration profile

Once you have successfully backed up your device and, if necessary, free space, it’s time to update to iOS 10 beta . The update of the public beta is an Over The Air (OTA) process so make sure you have your fully charged device and preferably connected to a charging cable.

On your iOS device, launch Safari and navigate to https://beta.apple.com/profile. If prompted, log into the same Apple account you linked to beta test program. Scroll down and look for the step “Download Profile” and click it.

If your device is protected by a PIN, you will be prompted for. Then you will see a large block of legalese, click “Install” in the upper right corner again. Finally, you will be prompted to restart your phone. Click “Restart.” Note: this does not install iOS 10, it updates only the profile on your phone so that you are still eligible for the OTA update in the first place.

After the phone restarts, it’s time to actually download and apply the update.

3rd Step : Apply the update

With the rear started with a phone and lifetime of the battery health, go to Settings> General> Update software. When you click it, you should see the following entry for “10 iOS Public Beta 1” (or more, if you read this tutorial, once the updates have deployed more Beta).

Click “Download and Install”.

Enter your PIN, if necessary, and then accept another series of agreements. Once you’ve done that, the download will start, but be prepared to wait (especially if you follow this tutorial around July 7 release of the first public beta). Although our broadband connection should normally make short work of mere ~ 2GB download, it took about half an hour to download the update file.

Once the update file is on your device, the “Download and Install” option, shown above, will turn to “Install.” You can install immediately or use the facility function later (but hey, this is a beta version and not on Christmas Eve, you want to play with your toys now).

Sit back and relax while the update installs and if you have not already done so, plug your phone into the charging cable to play it safe. Also, be patient and let it be: this is not a 9.2.x update 9.2.Y This is a major update.

End of process

When your iOS device terminates the update and you are back to the lock screen, enter your PIN code to start. You will be prompted to accept certain other agreements (iOS software is apparently the agreements at the bottom). Then you will be invited to participate in various data collection programs such as error reports to Apple and app developers. Even if you normally lock down that kind of privacy settings, we encourage you to enable them (at least while you are using the beta versions of iOS). The point of the whole beta program is for curious / dedicated to iOS users to try things before they reach the public in a statement each stable support error report.

In addition to allowing error reporting, you may notice that there is now a new Apple provided application on your phone: Comments.

With an extra minute effort here and there your bug reports will help you polish the edges of iOS 10 before it is made public.

A sign here, an”I agree” here, there, and everywhere, and after a quick download, you are operational 10 months before iOS everyone else. Now it’s time to play with the many new features and see how things change between now and the release of the fall.
